concept of “just war” was only imagined in the 4th century, and still despicably ignored in the face of potential
heresies. There is a host of misery, injustice, and cruelty in our Bible… we just conveniently ignore it in favor

The ridiculous idea that Islamic nations are somehow compelled to follow every bit of their scripture to the
sacrifice of their humanity is not reflected in any modern nation. The battle between religious fundamentalism and
modernism wages in every Islamic country around the globe. No fundamentalist regime has ever been unopposed.
Examining history, there is little evidence that Christians are ever any more peaceful than Muslims. By and large,
Islamic societies were far more tolerant of christian communities in their midst than christian communities were of
muslim ones. Muslims were responsible for far less conquest than Christians.
The simple fact is this: Christians went out and learned that being jerks in the name of their religion wasn’t a
good idea. The emergence of intellectualism in Islam will have the same effect. They’re a couple centuries behind us
on learning this lesson, but are certainly learning it a lot more quickly than our ancestors did.

David, I think you might ought to pay attention in church. In my church, we read two Old Testament scriptures every
Sunday and only one New Testament. The Old Testament is still the word of god, and is part of every Christian’s
spiritual growth. The New Testament renews the covenant with God, but does not, in any way, invalidate the Old
Testament. I think you will have a hard time finding any Christian who accepts the total removal of the Old
Testament from the Holy Bible.
So why do Muslims keep the “old Qu’ran”? The same reason we do.
David, yes, there are parts of the Qu’ran that can be taken, if read only for their words, as justification for
doing some of the things you have listed here. But the Holy Bible clearly states that people of other religions
should be stoned to death, that a man should take his brother’s widow as his own wife, that disobedient children
should be killed, that making slaves of your enemies is acceptable, that all non-virgin brides should be stoned,
etc… Your desires to make Islamic scripture into some kind of horror-show that is vastly different from that
portrayed in the Bible is misguided.

Americans suffer from the fallacious assumption that we are good, have always been good, and are only getting
better. It’s natural to feel that way… almost every nation in the world has that very same perspective. And we
have done a LOT of good in the world. But we are doing ourselves an injustice by pretending that we don’t make
mistakes and that those mistakes are somehow all justified because we are “good”. It’s not “bashing America” to note
that we’ve been the bull in the china shop more times than we should have… it’s honest recognition of our
mistakes.
Your assumptions on me and my motivations are wrong… Feel free to debate my points all you like, but if you keep
needing to paint me as a certain KIND of person in order to confront my issues, then you are demonstrating the

I am not apathetic to our survival, I am apathetic to impotent bigotry with no rationale. I am not pained that
